The Power of Partnerships
Major corporations do it, why wouldn't you?

There are endless options for partnerships out there. First and foremost, join your local Chamber of Commerce, if you haven't already. Second, talk to your business neighbors. It is vital that small business owners form mutually beneficial relationships with each other — especially owners of differing product shops.

This means if you own a retail home decor shop, you can offer free tea to your patrons from the coffee shop 3 doors down or cookies from the bakery next door. Make sure you have a sign next to the teapot or plate of cookies with their logo and business cards. Mention them often, and they will reciprocate. In return, you can sponsor their cups, signature drink or specialty bakery item. It can be named after your store, and be at a discount price on a certain night.

Flower shop owners — provide some flowers for Friday nights at a family-owned restaurant in your area.

Clothing shop owners — work with a nearby, locally-owned evening establishment (restaurant, pub or quirky coffee shop) to have a small fashion show.

This will become an endless support system of friends. It gives you new and interesting ways to talk about your business and products and a very inexpensive vehicle to get in front of new potential customers. I promise, you won't be sorry.

You can also sponsor charity events or offer services at a reduced rate in exchange for donations to a local organization. You are not only helping out your community, you are also getting like-minded people to talk about your business.
