Loyalty Programs
Make every customer a loyal patron.

Invest in every customer's experience by creating an atmosphere of friendliness and comfort. Everyone wants to have that place where they can order "the usual" and have it be remembered. This isn't just true for bartenders and hot dog stands. Make note of their likes and dislikes and show them items you think they may enjoy when they return. Remember names and make an effort to welcome them as if you were inviting them into your own home. With as much time and effort as you put it into your business, it is, in fact, very much like your second home.

Also, offer extra services. Concierge service will go a long way if you are in a shopping district where customers spend time meandering from shop to shop. Set up a system for holding items for your customers to save them the hassle of lugging around bags all day. Plus, when they pop back in to pick up their previous purchase, they may see something new that they missed the first time through. It is also another chance to use their name and enjoy a good rapport.

Other conveniences you can offer are free delivery on items over $50 or for customers who shop regularly, creative consults (this offers you the opportunity to up-sell in a natural and conversational way), and LAYAWAY. Layaway, especially leading up to the holiday season, will be a blessing to many of your patrons that they will take full advantage of by doing a good amount of their shopping at your boutique and ahead of the rush. It also helps you form a relationship with them as they come in to make their payments. Who knows- they may even buy a little something extra when they come in.

Finally, create a loyalty club or program that can earn them discounts over time and purchases. These can be tracked with cards that you give them or make it completely convenient for the customer and track it yourself behind the counter. Let them know in person when they make a purchase and maybe follow up by email, how close they are to the discount. Or you can give them coupon cards with discounts for future purchases if they spend X amount of dollars in one visit. Always put a time frame on the coupons. This will help you budget accordingly.

Loyalty Card 1
Giving discount cards for future purchases is a great way to keep your customers coming back. Try to make them personal by writing in the name of the customer along with the discount they've earned. This will also help you to use and remember their name when they come back.
